“Attorney Andrew Thompson was admitted to the Tennessee Bar in 2018. He received his Juris Doctorate from Lincoln Memorial University-Duncan School of Law in Knoxville, Tennessee. In addition to serving as the Morgan County Attorney, Mr. Thompson also serves as the City Attorney for Kingston, Tennessee and operates a private law practice in Kingston, Tennessee as well. “
As an elected official, the Morgan County Attorney represents the county in civil legal matters.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:

- To attend the meetings of the Morgan County Commission and any Committee Meetings when requested by the Morgan County Executive, any Morgan County Commissioner, or any Morgan County Department Head and to advise as to any legal matters arising during the meetings.
- To render opinions to the Morgan County Executive and all other county officers, in writing, upon such legal matters as may be duly presented by such officials. Likewise, the Morgan County
- Commission may request opinions of the County Attorney. However, the County Attorney shall not be bound to render any opinion in writing except upon matters directly pertaining to the affairs of the County.
- To represent the County in all litigation, not covered by insurance, in which it may be involved.
- To assist the County in all matters that require legal representation, advice, or assistance that are not litigation oriented
- To draft and/or review all necessary documents to which the County is a party and to supervise the draftsmanship of those in which the County shall be directly interested.
- To assist in responding to Public Records Request.
